Abbaye Notre Dame de Tamie, France

Tamie Abbey, where the monks make cheese

and you may rent a room for a spiritual retreat
we attended service and listened to the monks sing hymns

Sooooooo we had a bit of an adventure this day.  Originally we had hoped to check out a flea market in Annecy, but that is only in the non-winter months.  As an alternative thing-to-do we visited a nearby working abbey where the monks make cheese.
Our gps took us a normal, and then crazy, way to the abbey.  Our little sedan with its slick racing wheels could not handle a little snow and we got stuck at the base of a hill.  We got to check out the folks cross country skiing and hiking and whatnot, and they got to check us out as we wiggled lil' rental car from the snow spot, doing our best not to hit the few cars parked inches away.

Success after a few tries!  We started to head back, unsure of where we were, when we decided to try again following analog signs rather than dumb ol' digital New Zealand-accented gps Paul.  We stopped at the bridge along the way.
The abbey was neat; they have services open to the public and you can stay there for spiritual retreat.  Youth groups are also welcome.  Check it out HERE.  Their store was pretty sweet, too, selling the goods from other abbeys: like alcohol, chocolate, baked goods, and religious paraphernalia.

A great day in beautiful France.  Oui, oui.
