Ninety Six Ghosts
Pipe Smoking Rabbits
Trashkanistan
another band we didn't see (me = old and tired = head home early for sleep or else = MONSTER)
It's always nice to go to a show and see bands who you've never heard play well and sound great. Pipe Smoking Rabbits were fast, fun, and had great energy. I think they might be from the Baltimore/Harford county area, which adds to the local punk rock pride this evening had. I was also very stoked to see they had a female singer who featured on some songs. Girls/Women are so underrepresented in the punk scene; always have been for some reason, which I purport the riot grrrl movement was in response to. Anyway, as in anything male-dominated, it was super refreshing to see a woman up front.
This was also a night of notable drummers. I thought each drummer was stellar, which buh-duh, made for a strong foundation for each band's sound. Drummers are so important. Let's celebrate those guys and gals who are always sitting in the back, obscured from our vision, shoved against the wall, beating the shit out of their poor drum kits for our entertainment. You rock.
